What Happens During a Root Canal?
Dr. Navneet will begin by numbing the tooth before isolating it with a dental dam. She will then create a small opening in the crown so that she can freely access the inner layers, including the root canals and pulp chamber. Using specialized instruments, she will clean out decayed or damaged areas as well as remove the infected pulp – the centralized portion of the tooth that consists of various nerves and blood vessels and causes intense pain when affected.
Once it is removed, she will fill your tooth with gutta-percha, which is a synthetic, biocompatible substance that takes the place of the pulp. The area will then be sealed off to reduce the possibility of reinfection before a custom-made dental crown is applied over the top of the treated tooth for maximum protection.
